Apple Fest weekend!

The day dawned rather dismal but not as bad as those before it. We did debate on whether or not to go to the apple festival - it's a tradition to go... it's cold and wet out...
Tradition won :)

The drive wasn't bad; the colors aren't out like they usually are. With so little rainfall this year the trees aren't turning red - just a lot of yellow and brown if they turned at all.

We got a bit of a late start but when we got there everything was going full tilt. The carnival rides for hte kids were running and the vendors still had wares (which I was afraid they wouldn't!) We started by hitting the candy / bake shop looking for the apple bars we got last year. No such luck though. We did pick up some fudge though. It's very good stuff!

Made our way through the crowds, stopping for a corndog along the way. We managed to grab 3lb of fresh cranberries. Also found our hats :) Roger and I each got a new one and we got hats for the WA kids that will be here at Christmas.

The vendors were pretty good although I missed the copper guy that I got my roses from last year. It was pretty muddy though walking around so I'm very happy we didn't take a dog with. Pushing the puppy stroller would have been a pain.

After about 3-4 hours of roaming around we headed out but not before hitting the bakery again to get pie. They didn't have any baked for sale but they did have take and bake!! How perfect! Now we get good hot pie at home :)

Over all it was a good day - nice shopping - good food - and I even got to knit on the road and work on my Clapotis :)

Road Trip!

Creative Fibers and Sex World... what a road trip! Guess who wanted to go to which? lol

Never thought shopping with my daughter would be so interesting!

Here's some pics of the goodies from CF.. we'll leave the SW stuff for some other day...

On that note - here's some pics of the fibers I picked up... holler if you want a better explanation or what have you. Some is marino top in various colors at (if I remember right) about 1.75 an ounce. Other is dyed fleece - I just fell in love with the colors so now need to learn to card it right so I don't get mud. Time to get out the books!

Here's some more shots. enjoy!

This one is special... camel and silk :) it's just plain gorgeous! and soft and will probably be what I hate most as I start spinning :) I just couldn't resist.

I think these are the last of the actual fibers. Then it's on to yarns and books!

ok, yarn anyone? I found this Fleece Artist stuff and was intrigued - bought two skeins of it. It's a hank of mohair and one of regular wool packaged together in one "skein". There is a pattern for mittens and socks on the wrapper. Gorgeous colors!

Dish cloths someday :)

Some sequin stuff Brie found and I figured I'd grab a couple of balls as they were 50% off

Brie wants a knit teddy bear out of this stuff... it's soft as a cloud :)

and books :) A few new that I hadn't seen before so had to grab them.

This is Brie's bear that she wants

This book is sooooo cool!!! knit a fantasy realm! Knights - Maidens - unicorns! it's great :) Lots of fun small projects to play with!

today

ok yeah, sigh...

I'm so sick of having people in my house - remodeling SUCKS! It's been going on since before Christmas and I'm going nuts now. I want my privacy back!

and yeah, I should have pictures. I'll work on that!

Yesterday was spent with Brie off looking for music for her weekend DJ gig. Gotta love a couple that want the Lichtensteiner Polka and the Father/Daughter dance :) Brie's nervous as this is her first real gig by herself. She'll do great though!

Sat for a bit last night and carded some more of the Romney I got on Tracy's and my short fiber crawl. Have a decent basket of it in rolags they are so fluffy and nice :) grr.... ok pics.. let me find the camera... brb

OK! pictures lol

Here's a closer look :)

Those fluffy little clouds of gray air from this mess! That still amazes me!

After playing around with the wool, we settled back and watched another episode of Carnivale. That is a seriously messed up show but I would have liked to see what they would have done with it if it had run past 2 seasons.

Easier for me to crochet while doing the TV thing so worked on my yo-yos. Getting there!

Lot's of pretty colors there - only using varigated and then putting together with black. Should be pretty!!
off to checkup on the dog show this weekend. Then get the camera ready for the Iron Man contest in Ashland. Yeah for co-worker Glen!!!

Camper weekend

ah geez... I caught hell for not updating this thing. well heck :)

Hubby dragged the camper down to KR for me so that Tracy and I could catch up. We have learned that an afternoon for lunch just doesn't do it :) Seems to me the last time we tried we went through I think 4 shift changes and 3 meals at the local grill lol

Packed the camper with the required munchies and show and tell stuffs :) Did I take pics to post of anything? hell no... I know there was a camera in the camper someplace...

Dragged my wheel down there and good thing I did. It was in desperate need of some TLC. Got it cleaned up and greased and balanced. geez! no wonder I was having such a hell time trying to spin... ok that and that really shitty fiber :) nip city huh?

Well thanks to Tracy I have found some great fibers and gotten back at my wheel. I think carding is still my fav thing to do - for some reason it's extremely relaxing.

OH! fiber crawl... slow death...
drop into Moose Lake and see the shop there that Roger and I had tried to go to but it was closed. Nice place if small. Had a lot of pretty yarn to ogle and do the touchy feely to. I also liked the DPN holder. Should have grabbed one but I will next time I had down.

Next to Hinkley and the Mother of All. Nice place as well in a pretty setting. We dropped in amidst construction of a ramp. oh well... deal with it :) LOTS of pretty fibers and the very best thing were sample packs of various fibers!!! What a wonderful idea! Between the two of us I think we nabbed almost 2 lbs of fiber of various kinds in 1-2oz packets. Everything from baby camel to marino top. got some flax, some silk, some alpaca, cashgora (tracy nabbed that one!) and Finn - all sorts of fine to try stuff. Upstairs is a used book loft, Outside is a garden complete with a wonderful looking gazebo. It looks inviting and would be a gorgeous place to sit and knit.

Next stop is where the slow boil and swear words came in...
Off to Brainerd to what is advertised as a super shop!! We are both pretty excited cause it looks like on the web they have all sorts of things!! I"m in the market for some new spinning toys and figured I'd get them there... nope... no.
We follow the map to the store adn there's no store... ok I can deal with this. Check the door and there's a little note saying they moved. no prob. Head over to where they moved. door's open so we head in. This is an artist community in an old school. we finally found the store and guess what? they are closed. *GRRR* the web advertises they are open Monday thru Saturday until 6pm... truth is they are open Monday and Thursday until 4 and the second Saturday of the month. There is supposed to be a luncheon place connected - nope...

ok how hard is it to change a blasted web site? It would be different if we had just headed across town but it wasn't a short trip. I'm not saying i didn't enjoy the trip, any time we spend together is good time :) Just wishing we had been able to get into a spinning store like we were bother looking forward to. oh well. another adventure is in the planning and if nothing else there is always online... oh but I do so prefer to handle stuff first...

enough. see I DO update :) picks of the treasures to come... if I can find the camera!
